What is an AI voice agent and how does it work?
An AI voice agent is software that can hold a phone conversation. It listens, works out what the caller wants, looks things up or takes an action, and replies in natural speech. Unlike an old phone menu ("press 1 for sales"), the caller simply talks.
How it works, step by step
- Speech to text: the caller's voice is turned into text.
- Understanding: a language model works out the intent: booking, a question, a complaint.
